.: Spirit-filled Prayer :.

Today sermon by Pastor Melvyn on spirit-filled prayers indeed reminded me back to the importance and significance of praying in the spirit. As a young Christian, I was very engaged in prayers initially. I would always pray in the morning everyday. On my journey to school, I chose to take a 15min walk to the interchange rather than taking a bus. I would then start praying in tongue as I am walking. During that time, I have not received the gift of tongue yet. But I would anyhow come out with my own language and started to believe that I’m praying in tongue like the other Christians as my spiritual sister told me that praying in tongue really engaged you so closely to the Holy spirit.
It was amazed that I slowly grow to love to pray and eventually was disciplined to pray not only in the morning but at every moment whenever I can. It was during this period when I felt such a close intimacy with my inner spirit man and drawing myself closer to God. I always enjoy praying as I felt that it was a bonding between me and God as God is always there listening to my prayers.
But overtime as I started to get busy with my school work, my prayer’s habit decreases. I do continue to pray but with little faith. It seem more like a daily routine to me and I know that I’m not having a spirit-filled prayer. I believe a lot of Christians are also facing this kind of situation whereby they are not tapping on the spirit in their prayer.
Today, I was once again reminded on three important points: The Priority of Prayer, The Power of Prayer and the Perseverance of Prayer. The priority of prayers is like the breath that we take in, it is at every moment. The power of the prayer will truly only come when we start praying in the spirit, which is tapping into the power of the Holy Spirit. As mention in the Daily Bread, prayer is the releasing of the vast resources of God’s character and blessings in your life. The “much-ness” of God stands in sharp contrast to the leanness of our souls, and without prayer we cannot begin to tap into the reservoir of all that He is waiting to bestow to us. When we long for a satisfying taste of His resources, prayer is essential. Prayer is like a key which releases the power of God.
It was also important to know that we have to persevere and persistent in our prayer, just like how Jacob struggle and lay hold of God and not giving up. Therefore, always keep on praying and not give up. Pray until it happens!

“Much Prayer, much power; litter prayer, little power; no prayer, no power”
